The official register is the right source, but it only answers the question you ask it, and most people only ask for the exact name. The Search asks the wider questions an examiner would: plurals, spacing, spelling, sound and the distinctive words inside a name. Then it ranks what it finds so the important results are not buried.
It is built for the moment before money is spent: on a logo, a domain, packaging or a filing.
